Jamshedpur: On September 5, XLRI – Xavier School of Management organized the 11th Dr. Verghese Kurien Memorial Oration at the XLRI Tata Auditorium. This annual event, hosted by the Fr Arrupe Center for Ecology and Sustainability (FACES), honors the legacy of Dr. Verghese Kurien, founder of AMUL.
Mr. Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of Amul and the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF), presented the keynote address titled “AMUL Model: Transforming Lives of Millions.” Joining him on the dais were Ms. Nirmala Kurien, daughter of Dr. Verghese Kurien; Fr. S. George, S.J., Director of XLRI; Fr. Donald D’Silva, S.J., Dean of Administration and Finance; and Dr. Sanjay Patro, Dean of Academics.
The event began with a ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by Fr. S George’s remarks on Dr. Kurien’s commitment to social entrepreneurship and empowerment, highlighting India’s status as the world’s largest milk producer. Ms. Nirmala Kurien shared her father’s vision, emphasizing the importance of responsibility and integrity.
Mr. Mehta detailed AMUL’s impressive achievements, including daily collection of over 310 lakh liters of milk and a turnover of ₹80,000 crores, reinforcing the role of dairy as a lifeline for rural India. The event concluded with a video tribute to Dr. Kurien, celebrating his enduring impact on millions of lives.
