Mumbai: The Anupamaa actress, Rupali Ganguly, has recently filed a 50 crore defamation lawsuit against her stepdaughter Esha Varma for ‘scandalizing’ her character. The actress, known for her stellar work in television shows, has faced significant emotional and professional distress due to baseless and damaging allegations made against her.
Rupali’s lawyer, Sana Raees Khan, emphasized that the amount specified in the defamation notice is not just a number but a reflection of the serious harm caused by the false statements. The amount underscores the immense personal trauma, emotional toll, and professional setbacks Rupali has endured as a result of these allegations. Khan shared, “The demand for compensation aims to highlight the importance of accountability and serves as a deterrent against any future attempts to tarnish a person’s reputation without basis.”
According to the legal notice, Rupali’s professional life has been deeply impacted, with several career opportunities lost and her dignity questioned on set. Moreover, the emotional strain was so severe that she sought medical treatment. Yet, despite the ordeal, Rupali remained composed and dignified, initially choosing silence in the face of false accusations.
However, things took a more serious turn when her 11-year-old son, Rudransh, was dragged into the controversy. With her family’s integrity at stake, Rupali felt compelled to pursue legal action, as she firmly believes that no one should be allowed to destroy a person’s reputation and dignity through unfounded allegations.
After the defamation notice was issued, Esha Verma deleted all her defamatory posts on social media and took down her Twitter account. This swift action, following the legal intervention, marks a significant step toward justice, demonstrating that false statements can have consequences. Khan pointed out that Esha’s deletion of posts is a reaffirmation that reckless online behavior can no longer go unchecked and highlights the growing importance of responsible communication.
