Mumbai: The ‘King of Bollywood’, Shahrukh Khan celebrates his birthday today. This year Badshah of Bollywood turned 59. On the day of his birthday let’s look at some of the biggest achievements of King Khan that made him the ‘last of the stars’ he is today.
On November 2, 1965, Shahrukh Khan was born in Delhi to Meer Taj Mohammad and Lateef Fatima Khan. Shehnaz Lalarukh Khan is the name of his sister as well. After graduating from St. Columba’s School, Shahrukh went on to Hansraj College, University of Delhi, to earn a bachelor’s degree in economics. Shahrukh has been greatly impacted by the early loss of both of his parents.
Shahrukh has always dreamed of being the king of Bollywood. In an interview, Shahrukh talked about how he slept on Marine Drive during his hard times and how he hoped to one day dominate this city.
An injury made him an actor
In an interview Shahrukh mentioned he never wanted to become an actor, rather he wanted to represent India in sports. But an unfortunate back injury stopped him from playing Hockey further. On his parents’ advice he did a play at Lady Shri Ram College and continued doing small theatre roles and television shows.
Shahrukh’s role of Abhimanyu Rai in 1989 Fauji made him a popular name in every Indian household. After his television work soon, Shahrukh began receiving film offers. The first film he ever shot was Hema Malini’s Directorial Dil Aashna Hai, but he made his Bollywood debut on the big screen with Deewana alongside Divya Bharti and Rishi Kapoor. His role of an obsessed man possessively in love with a widow made him a star overnight. Shahrukh once mentioned he used to work multiple shifts in his early career and restlessness and his passion for acting is the key to his success.
Big breakthroughs of Shahrukh Khan
Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, or DDLJ, was Shahrukh’s biggest hit and earned him the reputation of a romantic hero, a role he adopted in later films like Veer-Zaara, Dil To Pagal Hai, and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Some versions of the romantic hero, like those in the movies Kal Ho Naa Ho, Devdas, and Dil Se…, had a tragic path. Shahrukh won everyone over with his portrayal of the romantic hero. Shahrukh once accused Yash Chopra of being romantic in a humorous joke. Yash Chopra turned him into a romantic hero, despite his stated desire to be an action hero.
