Farah Khan’s Mother passes away after prolonged illness
Jamshedpur, July 26, 2024:
‘Main Hoon Na’ Director Farah Khan and Sajid Khan’s mother, Menka Irani passed away at 79 On Friday, July 26 at 3 am in Mumbai.
She had been unwell for a while and was admitted to the hospital. She was the sibling of child stars Daisy Irani and Honey Irani.
She also appeared in in small roles alongside her sister Daisy in 1963 movie ‘Bachpan’
The choreographer-director had posted on social media to celebrate her mother’s birthday on July 12 and hinted at her declining health.
Sharing photos with her, Farah wrote, “We all take our mothers for granted… especially me! This past month has made me realize how much I love my mom Menka. She has been the strongest, bravest person I’ve ever seen, maintaining her sense of humor even after multiple surgeries. Happy birthday, Mom! Today is a good day to come home; I can’t wait for you to get strong enough to start fighting with me again. I love you.”
Farah often reflected on the challenges she, her brother Sajid, and their mother Menka faced after their father’s death. She shared with Radio Nasha, “I grew up in a film family, but by the time I was five, we had become the poor cousins. We lost all our money after my dad’s film flopped. It was a classic riches-to-rags story. While the rest of the family was thriving, we were left as charity cases. Sajid, my mother, and I were the ones in need of charity. Thankfully, they were very kind to us and let us stay in their home.”
For those who may not know, Farah Khan’s maternal aunt, Daisy Irani, is a prominent figure in the film industry. Starting her career as a child artist, Daisy became renowned for her roles in films such as “Naya Daur,” “Bandish,” “Kya Kehna,” and “Happy New Year,” among others.
