Controversy surrounding Rahul Gandhi’s caste census comment: Vivek Agnihotri sparks debate
Jamshedpur, July 31, 2024:
The Kashmir Files Director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri focused on his new project #TheDelhiFiles, has sparked debate with a harsh criticism of the planned caste census calling it a “sinister political gambit.” Pointing out Rahul Gandhi’s recent talk on the topic, the director known to research India’s history stories, worried that the plan is more about political moves than real worry for caste issues.
He wrote on X, “Rahul Gandhi’s caste census campaign is reminiscent of VP Singh’s dangerous Mandal Commission campaign. To save his position, Raja Sahib VP Singh played this dangerous gambit of caste politics without truly believing in it. The result has been a permanently damaged society on the caste front.”
In a sharp comment, the filmmaker said Rahul Gandhi is Trying to run a campaign to divide people and votes for political gain.
The filmmaker dug deep into India’s past breakups and saw similarities with Jinnah’s tricks during India’s split. “I’ve learned that Jinnah was secular and opposed Gandhi’s communal politics. But when Jinnah couldn’t challenge Gandhi’s popularity, he played the religion card, and India god divided.” he added.
In this heated argument, the filmmaker’s input shows bigger worries about how identity politics and government mix in today’s India. It calls for care when making rules that could affect how united the country is.
