Bihar Kokila and Padma Bhushan awardee Sharda Sinha passes away at 72

Mumbai: Sharda Sinha, the famous Indian folk and classical singer, passed away on Tuesday, November 5. She was on ventilator and was receiving treatment at AIIMS Hospital, Delhi, for several days.

A few days back, her son Anshuman Sinha updated about her health on YouTube Live, where he requested fans to pray for her speedy recovery. ‘Bihar Kokila’ has been battling multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, since 2018. Reports suggest Sharda Sinha was in shock due to her husband, Brij Kishore Sinha’s, passing away earlier this year.

On November 5, her son Anshuman Sinha took her official Instagram handle to announce the news of her demise. He wrote in Hindi, “Post by Anshuman Sinha, आप सब की प्रार्थना और प्यार हमेशा मां के साथ रहेंगे। मां को छठी मईया ने अपने पास बुला लिया है । मां अब शारीरिक रूप में हम सब के बीच नहीं रहीं। (All your prayers and love will always be with Mother. Chhathi Maiya has called the mother to herself. Mother is no longer with us physically.)”

Hailing from Bihar, Sinha became a popular folk and classical singer; her devotional songs could be heard during the auspicious occasion of Chhath puja. Other than these, she has also lent her voice to several Bollywood songs like Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, and Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur 2.
